TOYOTA CRYO RDT ANNOUNCES THREE RIDERS SELECTED TO PARTICIPATE IN THE 2023 OLYMPICS ESPORTS WEEK

Toyota CRYO RDT, a leading virtual cycling team and a pioneer in the realm of e-cycling, is thrilled to announce that two of its exceptional riders have been chosen to participate in the highly anticipated first ever Olympic Esports Week. This prestigious event, being held in Singapore, is a celebration of the merging worlds of Esports and traditional sports, while showcasing the immense talent and skill of esports athletes on a global stage.

The two talented riders from Toyota CRYO RDT who have earned the honour to participate are:

  1. Charlotte Colclough from Nottingham, UK, is a graduate in Sport and Exercise Science, working in the sports charity sector. Charlotte was active in National UK Road Racing for 20 Years but more recently has stepped down from outdoor racing to focus on Esports. Charlotte represented Great Britain at the Esports World Championships in 2022 and 2023, and her preferred races are TTs (Time Trials on Zwift) and hill climbs. Her selection for the 2023 Olympics Esports Week is recognition of her remarkable talent and contribution to the growth of Esports.
  2. Martin Maertens from Frankfurt, Germany, works as an engineer. With a background in various endurance sports and a preference for hard brutal climbs. Martin has carved a niche for himself in the Esports realm. Fast becoming a force to be reckoned with in the competitive Esports racing scene, he excelled in the recent Zwift Knockout and Zwift Grand Prix series. Martin was state hill climbing Champion in Hessen Germany in 2021 and 2022, and represented Germany at the Esports World Championships in 2022 and 2023. His journey to the 2023 Olympics Esports Week is a testament to his unwavering passion and the hours of hard work he has invested in honing his skills.

In addition to these two riders, Linda Klein from Wageningen, Netherlands, was also selected to take part in the Olympics, however due to a sudden road bike accident she has had to forfeit her place. Linda raced outdoors when younger but recently found that Esports provided her with the perfect way to race competitively without the stress of the peloton.

Linda represented the Netherlands at the Esports World Championships in 2022 and 2023. Last year, having decided to do some competitive Gravel Bike riding, she qualified to represent the Netherlands at the UCI Gravel World Championships. Her dedication and commitment to the sport earned her this opportunity, and we wish her well on her road to recovery.

Toyota South Africa Motors (TSAM) takes immense pride in these three remarkable riders, who exemplify the team's commitment to excellence and sportsmanship. The 2023 Olympics Esports Week will not only showcase the riders' exceptional skills but also serve as a testament to the growing recognition of esports as a legitimate sport.

This event will further promote the values of inclusivity, camaraderie, and healthy competition, bridging the gap between traditional and virtual sports.

As the riders gear up for the 2023 Olympics Esports Week, TSAM extends its best wishes to Charlotte and Martin.
