Drivers won’t struggle to get comfortable behind the Golf 7’s wheel, as both the front seats are height-adjustable – no more peering over the steering wheel if you’re vertically challenged! For a mini SUV experience, crank up the front seats to their highest setting or if you prefer a sportier ride, set the seats down low.
The steering wheel can be adjusted both up and down, as well as in and out. Any controls missing from the steering wheel can be found within easy reach on the dashboard.
Despite preconceived notions about hatchback size and space, three adult passenger can sit in the back seat of with few complaints (though no more than four tall adults throughout the vehicle is ideal for prolonged ride comfort). When settled down in the back seats you’ll notice that the Golf 7 beats out many of its competitors when it comes to head and legroom. The large windows help make it feel even more spacious.
Five doors just make more sense when you’re looking for a good family vehicle. The Golf 7’s ISOFIX child seat points are clearly marked, making it easy to get the seat in position.
And what would a family car be without plenty of storage spaces scattered throughout the cabin? The Golf 7 has no shortage of these. All cubby holes open smoothly and quietly, making them a joy to use.
Volkswagen really nails the basic amenities everyone wants in their car’s interior. Door pockets are large enough to accommodate a 1.5-litre drink bottle and have space to spare. They’re also felt-lined, ensuring no bits and bobs roll around noisily. Smaller valuables can be hidden underneath the front and centre armrest. There’s also a small tray ideal for storing spare change, as well as two cup holders.
The interior is filled with nice touches, showing off Volkswagen’s thoughtful design. Take, for instance, the illuminated vanity mirrors underneath the Golf 7’s sun visors, or the spacious glovebox that’s cooled via the air conditioning. The hidden-phone tray, including AUX and USB points, is another helpful addition. Speaking of phones, you’ll also stop forgetting yours in the car, since the infotainment system reminds you to take it before exiting.
Finally, when it comes to boot space, the Golf 7 also doesn’t disappoint with a respectable 380 litres. The boot can also adjust between two height levels: opt for either a deep loading area or one that’s nearly flush with the Golf’s rear bumper, depending on what you’re trying to store and transport.
