Overall, Volkswagen’s Caravelle cabins are decently isolated from both mechanical and wind noise. The engine is well-muffled when driving at cruising speed, but when driving at higher speeds, you may find the engine running less silently. Tyre roar is held to a minimum as is wind noise, caused by the Caravelle’s steep, vertical face and large door mirrors. When compared to an SUV, it’s not the quietest vehicle out there, but it more than makes up for it in space and comfort.

Drivers and passengers alike will enjoy the latest VW Caravelle’s elevated seating arrangements, as well as the big and beautiful windows. We can highly recommend the addition of a mechanical differential lock on the Caravelle’s rear axle. This, along with 4Motion all-wheel drive, makes actions such as pulling off the road in less-than-ideal conditions, far easier.
The VW Caravelle has four cylinders with an output of 146kW at 3800 to 4000 revs per minute. The torque of this van is 450Nm at 1400 to 2400 revs per minute. The seven-speed direct shift gearbox gives the driver more control and power. The van is also equipped with a dynamic chassis and shock absorption to give you the smoothest drive possible.
The VW Caravelle is a large practical vehicle. Seven seats, all able to comfortably accommodate adults, are a standard feature across the range. The seats are spaced out between three rows, the first and second rows featuring two individual seats each and the third row featuring a 3-seater bench.
Caravelle seating arrangements are highly customisable, depending on your transportation needs. Both the second and third-row seats can slide back and forth quite a bit, thanks to the long rail system. Alternatively, these chairs can be removed altogether, leaving you with, essentially, a van. This is ideal if you ever need to move a large piece of furniture or simply need a whole lot of extra baggage space. Load volume across the range is an impressive 4 300 litres.
Second-row chairs can also be swivelled around to face the third row, creating a mobile lounge or meeting space, depending on your reason for wanting to invest in a Caravelle. Another welcome feature is a small folding table, also secured on the rails – ideal for going over paperwork or holding colouring books while on the road.
A flat floor makes it easy to move between rows. Plus, there’s plenty of head, leg and elbow room available for all seat occupants, even when the vehicle is filled with fully grown adults. You’ll also be happy to hear that there are more than enough cup/bottle holders and cubbies available throughout the cabin for miscellaneous bits and bobs.
