The new, improved and more technologically advanced second-generation Isuzu mu-X has a completely new design and here at Isuzu Truck Centre, we love it!
The mu-X is a bakkie-based SUV with a rugged body-on-frame construction perfectly suited to the rough and tumble of off-roading. It shares its platform with Isuzu’s popular D-Max bakkie which also was released recently.
The exterior of the mu-X is sleeker and less bulbous than its predecessor and got perked up with fashionable arrow-shaped Bi-LED headlamps, new aggressive lines and a body that is longer, wider, and higher. New bumpers finish off the overall attractive look.
There are three variants in the form of the mu-X LS in 4x2 and 4x4, the mid-range LSE with only 4x2 and the range-topping ONYX in 4x4 only.
All three variations are fitted with alloy wheels with the ONYX on 20-inch, the LSE models on 18-inch and the LS with 17-inch wheels. In addition, you’ll be able to change the rim diameter to fit a higher profile off-road tyre on the Onyx.
The interior also underwent a makeover and sports more soft-touch surfaces creating a premium feel. In the top range variant you can enjoy black leather seats and door panels which are smartened up with white contrast stitching.
If it comes to space, this seven-seater SUV definitely does not disappoint. With all rows up the mu-X offers 311l of boot space which can be extended to a massive 3568l by folding and stowing away the backseats. In addition, every passenger has plenty of access to storage compartments and an array of charging points.
The mu-X is very well equipped with climate control, USB as well as a modern infotainment system that features Apple Car Play and Android Auto. Rear passengers can also enjoy the 3 zone climate to heat or cool themselves.
This will allow even the largest and most active families to travel in comfort and style.
You’ll be happy to know that under the bonnet lies Isuzu’s trusty 3.0-litre turbo-diesel engine that’s been refined and tweaked to produce 140kW and 450Nm, mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission.
The mu-X delivers a superb drive and dynamic handling on various surfaces but its true happy place is the dirt. With just a twist of the knob on the centre console you redirect the power from the rear wheels to all four. A low-range transfer case and a lockable rear diff as well as a rough terrain driving mode further support this Isuzu’s formidable off-road capabilities and are a must-have to conquer the unpredictable South African terrain.
The new mu-X is one of the safest vehicles in its class. It has 8 airbags including a segment-first centre airbag between the driver and front passenger, and the top of the range model has adaptive cruise control and lane keeping assist.
All in all, the new mu-X is a significant improvement on the previous model in every aspect. The one thing that hasn’t changed is its reliability and longevity. After all, it’s an Isuzu, so you’ll know exactly what you are getting!
