To prove that they still hold true to this reputation, they organised a test drive to put Isuzu's new 1.9l turbo diesel D-Max to the test in road trip from Johannesburg to Cape Town. Driving the D-Max 1.9 Ddi Double Cab 4x2 manual, Grant McCleery, former racing driver and head of the Isuzu Driving Academy, completed the 1,431km journey using only 73.82l of fuel. This equates to just 5.1l / 100km, an outstanding feat by any standard but even more impressive considering the fact that McCleery managed to maintain an average speed of 100km/h over the distance. This proves that the D-Max is not only fuel-efficient but also capable of handling long-distance driving with ease.

The D-Max’s latest-generation is built right here in Mzansi and features a 1.9l four-cylinder intercooled turbo diesel produces 110kW of power and 350Nm of torque. It features a 200 MPA common rail direct injection system and a high-efficiency variable geometry turbocharger for excellent response and acceleration.
Isuzu offers 24 D-Max models in South Africa, with 16 of them powered by the economical 1.9 Ddi engine.
