The VW T-Roc Interior: An Effortless Combination of Advanced Tech and Bold Style

Meet the Fifth Member of Volkswagen’s SUV Family

South Africans love SUVs of all shapes and sizes. It’s proven by the fact that this market has shown rapid growth of 44% between 2015 and 2019. But this isn’t merely a countrywide trend, but a worldwide one as international experts have estimated that the popular compact SUV market segment will nearly double in size over the coming decade.

The all-new T-Roc joins Volkswagen South Africa’s existing SUV range, consisting of the T-Cross, Tiguan, Tiguan Allspace and Touareg, as the fifth member from November 2020. Size-wise, it fits in right between the T-Cross and Tiguan.

It’s designed to be the perfect solution if you love a hatchback like a Golf but are looking for something slightly larger and more spacious. Mat Watson, a carwow expert, has this to say: “You should consider the VW T-Roc if you need the practicality and economy of a family hatchback but fancy something with more eye-catching looks and a raised driving position.”

The Volkswagen T-Roc’s attractive and bold exterior design translates beautifully to its interior, leaving a lasting impression with all who are lucky enough to tag along for the ride. For an overall look at the T-Roc, read our VW T-Roc review article.

There are three distinct derivatives to choose from. They are:

Volkswagen T-Roc Cabin Tech and Infotainment

By investing in a T-Roc you can know you’re investing in connectivity with the world beyond the cabin at the same time. This is thanks to a host of standard and optional tech integration features that helps you find your way, provides access to useful vehicle information and makes travelling a joy for all who’ve come along for the ride.

Volkswagen’s primary T-Roc infotainment system consists of the following elements:

  • Active Info Display
  • Composition Media Radio
  • Discover Media Navigation

Some of these elements may come at an additional cost but all are well worth it, considering the value and convenience they add. For a complete list of standard and optional features, get in touch with one of CFAO Volkswagen’s dealers or download the T-Roc brochure.

The T-Roc boasts one of the most intuitive infotainment systems on the market. Its high-resolution display is incredibly responsive and all menus are logically laid out, making it easy to use.

T-Roc Composition Media Radio

Looking to listen to your favourite tunes while on the go? Or do you wish to remain connected with what’s happening in the world around you? The T-Roc’s Composition Media Radio can – and will – deliver, giving you access to:

  • 6 speakers boasting 4x20 W output
  • A 20.3 cm or 8 inch TFT colour display
  • FM radio, as well as diversity aerial for perfect reception
  • Mobile phone connection through Bluetooth
  • Touchscreen technology featuring a proximity sensor
  • Type C USB port

The display’s brightness and graphic resolution has been stepped up and learned from in other Volkswagens. You’ll enjoy the crispness and adaptability of the instruments.

T-Roc Discover Media Navigation

The T-Roc’s Discover Media Navigation system is closely associated with and builds on the capabilities of the previously mentioned Composition Media Radio. With map material installed and ready for travel across the country, you won’t be getting lost any time soon. The crystal clear sound and display makes hearing and seeing where to navigate to a breeze.

T-Roc Active Info Display

Volkswagen’s Active Info Display is a fantastic feature, as it can be personalised to suit every driver that sits down behind the T-Roc’s steering wheel. Any adjustments can be made with ease, using the buttons found on the multifunction steering wheel. You can display a large map using this system and you’re also able to make use of the zoom function, without enabling Discover Navigation Premium.

The display can either be run in Auto mode (which will display driving information relevant to the person who’s driving) or you can choose between 16 other settings. It’ll show you everything you want and need, ranging from your current speed to sat-nav directions and more.

Volkswagen T-Roc Cabin Layout and Design

The T-Roc’s cabin is the height of modern crossover design, allowing consumers to make it their own through various personalisation choices. It’s sharp and tasteful, featuring plenty of high-tech flair that combines Volkswagen’s famous build quality with a distinct style. Pick one of the Design models and you have the opportunity to customise your T-Roc’s interior with a choice of three coloured inserts, plus upholstery to match.

All parts of the cabin feel solidly assembled, as there’s no noticeable creaks or groans to mention. When cruising around, the cabin remains quiet, thanks to the minimal road and engine noise. The dashboard layout is well thought out as every button, knob and dial is easily within reach and clearly marked.

Volkswagen T-Roc Cabin (and Boot) Space and Comfort

It may appear compact from the outside but once in the cabin, the T-Roc has lots of space available to all seat occupants and the luggage you need to stow away in the boot. It’s ideal if you have a small family that wants a small SUV that offers more comfort than the equivalent hatchback.

Head and legroom are up to scratch throughout – two tall individuals can be seated one behind the other thanks to the accommodating dimensions of the Volkswagen T-Roc. The seating positions and legroom (as well as the optional panoramic sunroof) create a feeling that you’re inside a far larger vehicle, so don’t fret about feeling cramped in during long journeys. Thanks to their seating position, drivers have a good view of the road in all directions too.

Luggage space can grow up to 1 290 litres if the rear seat bench is folded down. Depending on the model you choose, you’ll also have access to a minimum luggage space of 392-445 litres. To the family that enjoys an occasional weekend breakaway or shopping spree, this should be more than enough space to go around.

Comfort front seats are a standard T-Roc feature. R-Line models boast individually adjustable lumbar support for front seat occupants, as well as a choice of individual seat covers. Those who opt for an R-Line model will find it comes with the ‘Vienna’ leather package as standard (which is optional for Design models). This package finishes seat inner bolsters and centre storage sections in ‘Vienna’ leather. R-Lines also enjoy front sport seats with the aforementioned lumbar support, plus seat heating.

Volkswagen T-Roc Cabin Safety and Security

You can sleep well at night when you choose to invest in a new VW T-Roc, as it received a 5-star Euro NCAP safety rating. It scored more than respectable ratings in all four of the primary categories it was tested for:

  • Adult occupant safety score = 96%
  • Child occupant safety score = 87%
  • Pedestrian safety score = 79%
  • Safety assist score = 71%

Some of Volkswagen’s standard interior T-Roc safety features include:

  • ‘Rest Assist’ fatigue detection system
  • Front and rear curtain airbags, as well as diver and front seat passenger airbags (featuring airbag deactivation on the front passenger seat)
  • Park Distance Control parking sensors in the front and the rear
  • ISOFIX child seat anchor points for up to two child seats in the back of the vehicle
  • 3-point seatbelts in the front and the rear (including the rear central seat); front seatbelts are also height adjustable and feature pretensioners
